Bright meteor over South Africa (New Footage Included)

More footage here - www.youtube.com Correction- the part with the police car is not from africa, it was taken in the US on Nov. 18th, 2009. Late on Saturday night, 2009 November 21, a very bright meteor was seen flashing across the sky from the northern parts of South Africa. Tim Cooper, Director of the ASSA Comet & Meteor Section, estimates that the apparent magnitude of the meteorite was -18. "I think it is highly likely it hit the ground somewhere north of our borders," Tim writes. He notes that the most northerly sighting came from north of Gweru, Zimbabwe. "Reports also from as far west as Rustenburg, and as far east as Ezulwini, Swaziland" were received, he writes. The size of the meteorite has been estimated as that of a washing machine. Kos Coronaios has received several reports all of which describe something bright, seen around 23:00, moving from east to west (or south-east to north-west). One report Kos received even notes that a rumbling sound was heard, with trembles that caused paint to fall off a wall! He writes: "Reports of the event on Saturday (21/11) evening received so far this morning from: Pretoria, Tzaneen, Potgietesrus, Polokwane, Louis Trichardt, Levubu, Vivo, Alldays. "All consistent with a bright flash of light that was visible with no sound (except from the Vivo, Alldays region). Most sites were partly overcast in Louis Trichardt and from my location it was completely overcast with drizzle and all we saw was a bright light lasting perhaps a ...

Kendrick 2" Laser Collimator for 2" Focusers

Kendrick 2" Laser Collimator for 2" Focusers Review

Kendrick 2" Laser Collimator for 2" Focusers Feature

Kendrick 2" Laser Collimator for 2" Focusers Overview

Kendrick makes Collimators that can be used with Newtonians and Dobs. The Standard laser, #2062, has a 45 degree face so that they extend out from the bottom of all but the longest focusers (Newtonian). This allows the collimator face to be easily viewed from the bottom of your Scope when adjusting the collimation screws. Instructions, and a gummed paper ring for Newtonian primary mirror are included with each unit. The laser is a class IIIA, 650 nm laser diode of less than 5 milli watts. It is considered safe for consumer use, but you should avoid letting the beam enter your eye, directly or after reflection from a mirror. It is okay to look at the scattered light from the red spots where the beam hits the mirrors. The collimators take two AAA batteries (included). There is a one year Kendrick warranty for defects in materials and workmanship on the collimators

Why should we plan a number of manned missions to asteroids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

NASA is considering a manned mission to Mars, most of the political left-wing socialist-liberal not like the idea, but perhaps they should reconsider. Yes, of course, there will always be complaints about the money spent on space research, because people often feel at home, that we will spend money for social causes instead. But sending a manned mission or missions to asteroids, comets, meteors or giant several makes perfect sense - okay, so let's talk.

Not so long agoIt was a very decent article about the privatization of Space website, entitled, "The Case for a man Asteroid Mission" by Lou Friedman, the to 13 Published in December 2010. Friedman suggests that such a mission would be interested in the space program, it's hard to discount as fact replaced. He also suggests that it could bring back the "can do" attitude and spirit at NASA, which could not accept me.

And yet I can some other very good reasons for going to an asteroid and give backagain with a manned mission rather than just a robot. First, we have already sent robotic asteroid and back again, on the other we need to know what asteroids are, in the case we have a blow out of the sky or distract from hitting our planet and take us out like the dinosaurs you see?

When we go into battle to save Earth from a giant asteroid, then war theory says we should "know our enemy well, and if the enemies of mankind" giant space rock "as one of my friend says, we need to know all about these dangers. So we need more data, information, and we need it sooner rather than later.

This is done if we ever hope to learn about The Big One, as it opens the earth!

In fact, I hope you will please note all this and mail me if you have any comments, concerns, questions, debate points (not the typical ones, has been there, done that). Meanwhile, think on it.

Meteor Showers Return - The Lyrids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The autumn (or fall) Lyrids shower has historical resonances

It's a long three months for sky watchers in the southern hemisphere, was the height of the summer cutting down on transmission time. As Autumn (autumn) is, we are closer to one of the oldest observed meteor showers on Earth - the Lyrids shower.

As this shower (like all meteor showers, a remnant of a comet - Comet Thatcher said, in this case) comes from something more than theEcliptic, it is visible on the northern horizon to us, with a peak that occurs at some point between 19 April 22, with some meteors come by as early as the 12th and some come as late as May 3rd.

This shower can not be bound to a single comet remnants, or the remnants of comets may have an odd orbit, about every 60 years thereafter, the Lyrids on a huge show, going 60-10 meteors per hour up to a hundred or more per hour. The most spectacular meteor showerEvent in the modern history of astronomy seems to be a Lyrids shower in April 1803, which in the northern hemisphere had so many meteors on the east coast of the United States that it intended to be (in some parts) that have the word was a coming end. Many drawings of the night sky and pictures of the event exist, including at the Meteors sky enough to cause multiple shadows of people standing on the roadway.

Because of the times of the pericyclic Lyrids shower, and hisperiodic outbreaks, mathematical calculations of the orbital elements are tricky. The "about every 60 years" rule for the Lyrids was used to, it is likely to record events as far back as 638 BC, the oldest astronomical event recorded retreat on record.

One of the interesting confluence of the Lyrids is that they are the remains of more than a comet may have had; comet Thatcher has a 417 years orbital period and the peak of the Lyrids stream approximately every 60 years ... and superPeaks, which we do not have long enough to determine their baseline frequency. explosively - - to do with an eccentric with a track longer than the other, and a periodic confluence of two major elements bursts Lyrids This points to the possible collision with a comet or calving, where the comet nucleus produced in two parts.

While we're pretty sure this is not a "once very 60 years," burst (the last was in 1982, and we are not for any other reasonto about 2042), Lyrids are a pretty reliable meteor shower observations, although with the time of year, you will want to up by 2 to 4 clock in the morning to live to see it from where you.

Mexican Unidentified flying objects - Green Fireball sightings

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Amazing reports of sightings of Green Fireball Unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have fascinated ufologists for years.

Here is a taste of what to see in official reports. It was just midnight on 18 September 1954, when my phone rang. It was Jim Phalen, a friend of mine from the Long Beach Press-Telegram, and he had a "good flying saucer report," fresh from the wires. He read it to me. The lead was: With thousands of people today witnessed a huge fireball thatLight on the New Mexico sky. "

The story went on to tell how had a "blinding green" fireball the size of the full moon silently streaked southeast of Colorado and northern New Mexico in 80-40 that night. Thousands of people had seen the fireball. He had passed right over a crowded football stadium in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the people of Denver, she said "the night into day." Witnessed by the crew of a TWA airliner flies into Albuquerque from Amarillo. Every policeNewspapers and the telephone exchange in the two-state area was jammed with calls.

One of the calls was from a man asked whether anything unusual had happened recently. Heaving an audible sigh of relief after being told about the strange ball of fire, he said, "Thank you - I was afraid I would get some bad bourbon." And he hung up.

Dr. Lincoln La Paz, world renowned authority on meteorites and head of the University of New Mexico Institute of Meteoritics, apparently not flinch when told of theSighting. The wire story said he had a reporter that he would determine his course of the plot, try, where he landed, and go and try to find it said. "But," he said. "I do not expect to find something,"

When Jim Phalen had the rest of the report he asked, read "What was it?"

"There are sounds to me like the green fireballs back," I replied.

"What the devil are green fireballs?" asked Jim.

What the hell are green fireballs? I would like to know. That would open a lot of otherPeople.

The green fireballs streaked into UFO history in November 1948, when people report about Albuquerque, New Mexico, that mysterious "green flares" began late in the night. The first reports mentioned only a "green streak in the sky," low on the horizon. The description of the Air Force Intelligence people Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque and the Project Sign people ATIC wrote the objects like torches.

But as days passed on the reports better. For example, the report on09:27 on 5 December by Captain Goede under an Air Force C-47 at 18,000 feet 10 miles east of Albuquerque. The crew was a sudden flash green fireball in the sky scared of them. At first glance, appear to want to be a huge meteor except that it has a bright green color and it has not characteristic bow down like meteors in general.

After discussion, the team quickly agreed to report the incident, especially since they had seen a similar object in 2002Minutes before near Las Vegas, New Mexico.

The captain of Pioneer Airlines Flight 63 called Kirtland Tower a few minutes after the incident. At 9.35 clock he had seen a green ball of fire east of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The observation of the object apparently traveling on a collision course with their aircraft, it changes its color from orange red to green. With the goal of getting bigger, "said the captain, he thought sure it would collide with them, he took to avoidAction on the control of the DC-3 into a sharp curve. As the green ball of fire got abreast she started it to fall to the floor, getting weaker and weaker until it disappeared. In a split second she realized what she saw was too low and had a fairly flat trajectory of a meteor. He was on his way to Albuquerque and would make a full report when he landed to make.

Other reports had also been called from all over northern New Mexico. In the morning, had a thorough investigationbegun. The military was always a little nervous about the uncertainty of the green fireball sightings.

Since the green fireballs hole some resemblance to meteors or meteorites, the Kirtland intelligence officers called in specialist Dr. Lincoln La Paz.

Certainly, he said, the description of the fireballs was similar to that of meteorites. One way to be sure was to try to determine the trajectory of the green fireballs land, where they hit the ground if theyMeteorites.

After considering many sightings they finally plotted where they should have hit the ground and searched the area but found nothing. They went back into the room again and again - nothing. As Dr. La Paz later confided that this is the first time he seriously doubted that the green fireballs were meteorites.

A few days later fireball sightings have been reported almost every night. The intelligence officers from Kirtland decided that maybe they couldget a good look at one of them, on the night of 8 December, two officers took on an airplane just before dark and began to cruise around north of Albuquerque. A carefully crafted plan was designed to focus for each person on a particular detail in the observation of the green fireballs. At 18.33 clock they saw. This is their report.

At 18.33 clock in flight in an indicated altitude of 11,500 feet, a strange phenomenon was observed. Exact position of the aircraft at the time ofthe observation was 20 miles east of Las Vegas, NM, radio range station. With me as co-pilot and the aircraft on a compass heading of 90 degrees. I first observed the object, a split second later the pilot saw it too. It was 2,000 feet higher, and our plane was approaching at a rapid rate of 30 degrees on our port side. The object was similar in appearance to a burning torch green, the kind that is commonly used in the Air Force. However, the light was too intense, and the objectappeared to be much larger than a normal torch considered. At first glance, the trajectory of the object was almost flat and parallel to the ground. The phenomenon lasted about 2 seconds. At the end of this time the task seemed to start and burn off track then fell off rapidly. The phenomenon was of such intensity as to be ignited from the moment it is visible.

Back at Wright-Patterson AFB, was the main interest to all incoming UFO reports to check and see if thegreen fireball reports were actually unique in the region of Albuquerque. They were. Sightings of UFOs in other parts of the United States were reported to fit any description of the green fireballs.

Constantly in December 1948 and January 1949, seemed the sky above New Mexico full of green fireballs. Everyone had seen, even the secret service in Kirtland AFB, Air Defense Command people, Dr. La Paz and some of the greatest scientists in Los Alamos at leastone.

In mid-February 1949 a conference in Los Alamos ¬ appointed me what needs to be done to discourage further investigation should follow. The Air Force Project Sign, the intelligence people at Kirtland and other interested parties had all she can think of and still did not answer.

Such notable scientists as Dr. Joseph Kaplan, a world-renowned authority on the physics of the upper atmosphere, Dr. Edward Teller, the H-bomb fame, and of course Dr. The participants, including LaPaz, along with a lot of military officers and scientists from Los Alamos.

This was a conference where there is no need to talk about whether or not this particular type of UFO, the green fireball, existed. Almost every ¬ one at the meeting had seen one.

Some dinosaur theme party games

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Dinosaur Party Games can be fun romp for the guests, especially if you have some to find that the dinosaur party theme fit perfectly.

Our first game is called "Pass the Bone". It is a variation on "Pass the Orange," but is only as fun to play and maybe a little easier. You need a fairly large rawhide bones for the guests to drive around. Each player receives a T-Rex for dinner at this dinosaur party. They are surprisingly nice to each other and Digitalcameras.shoptoday.us" title="shopping Digitalcameras.shoptoday.us" title="shopping Digital cameras">Digital Cameras">Share food, but their arms are so short, theyBones need to pass by them under the chin. They do not Digital Cameras">Share with the mouth, because they could overlap each other with their teeth, not unless you want to have, drooled over in a rawhide bone to bite.

So the players in a circle or a line and get to the bone past each other by between her chin and her chest. Who is the bone of the dinosaur party game kicked drops, and who the bone with something other than her chin and passesNeck is also kicked out the meal. To this competitive you can split the group into two teams and have each team try a bone from one end of the line to the other and the first round win to end.

The second game is "Blind Run 'is just a fun game to be played at a party outside of dinosaurs. Everyone will alternately as a dinosaur from the meteor, dinosaur it is to hit the earth and wipe this you're a great group for this , it is sufficient that the skiers can have a good runDistance. The group have to form two lines with arms forward toward the other line stretched. The current dinosaur will run through this scale with my eyes closed. Why? Because it's so much to see dust kicked from the meteor that the dinosaurs do not. His hold up to the others in line, their hands and guid the dinosaurs in a straight line to help you through the gamut. If the runner has to scream at the end to stop it reaching them. This is a great gameto use extra energy to the guests at your dinosaur themed party.

2012 Prophecies - The End of the World

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Throughout history there have been many prophecies of the end of the world was. Many who tried to certain proven false in the end to get there through the world on. Others have not one or the other, proven, because their data are not yet come. 2012 prophecies are among the latter group.

Offline has some rumblings about 2012 predictions, but online is where there are many mentions of this theory. Every forum seems to have at least one threadabout 2012, have bloggers who are willing to discuss things of this kind are bound to, and there are several websites to read.

So what are these 2012 predictions? Basically they all come from a root fact: The ancient Mayan calendar ends in 2012. This fact is believed to Mayan prophecy trailer to signal that the whole world at this point at the end that the Mayans did not bother to make another calendar, because they do not need thought.

Characteristics of this world endsvary depending on who is interpreting the data. Some believe the world is a strike to stop catastrophic natural disaster, like a meteor, while others who want more credibility sound a little down and claim that it will be "the end of the world as we" know more as to a real destruction of the planet itself, it is thrown a bit of interesting science, such as the fact that it is likely to become a galactic event known as a solar eclipse December 12th 2012th This is onlyshould be done every 28,600 years. 2012 prophecy believers think this may be to announce some important changes for the earth.

Needless to say, plenty of skeptics. Although, several other Mayan prophecies seem to be accurate, these skeptics several logical holes in the 2012 prophecies. In those counterpoints are simple explanations, such as the fact that Mayan culture can easily have ended before their scholars were together a different calendar. Others say that the Mayan calendarSystem consisted of set periods far longer than a year, and this only happens to end in 2012. They claim there is no particular importance of this at all.

Like most nebulous prophecies, there are points and counterpoints about every possibility, whether for or against. The only way to know for sure, unfortunately, will be to wait until 2012 and see what happens.

What a mother and father's rights in California, if you are not married?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In modern times many couples have children when they are not married. Problems can in regard to custody, visitation and child support arise when these couples break off the relationship.

In a perfect world the mother and the father are amicable in such a situation, and do what the child or children in the best interest. However, it is much safer, and highly recommended that you get orders to the Court regarding custody, visitation and support issues, so that theMother and father each know their respective rights and obligations, so that there is no ambiguity regarding the same.

This article discusses the issue of children who are both born out of wedlock from the mother and the father's prospective to give you a general understanding of the law was born in California of illegitimate children.

The mother Prospective

The mother of a child that is born out of wedlock has a unique advantage that theynormally do not prove that the child is theirs. If hospital records indicate that a woman has given birth to a child and the birth certificate that is issued on the birth of a child indicates that the female gave birth to the child, as it usually show no problem with the mother, that the father's mother.

The mother of a child born outside of marriage automatically to full custody of a child absent a court order specifies otherwise be entitled.

You cangive the father visitation if she chooses to, or they may deny visitation to the father absent a court order.

All minor children in California have a right to receive maintenance under a statutory directive. (The issue of child support in a separate forthcoming article will be covered). If the mother of a child who is born outside of marriage will receive child support from the father, she will have to serve and file a petition to establish parentage of the father , and an order toShow Cause for child support with the appropriate court.

If the mother is on social assistance or aid to families with dependent children, the District Attorney in the county of residence of the parent support is usually in the process, so that the county reimbursed for the aid which is sent to the mother by the District provided.

If a father voluntarily accepts paternity, than the court to decide each party's rights to custody, visiting rights and maintenance to the facts of the underlyingCase. If the father denies that he is the father, he may request that a DNA test performed to determine if he is the father. Once this process is completed, as the Court shall determine each party's rights.

If not a parent, who is the real father of the child, she will have a petition to establish parentage of any potential father file.

The court will usually order the father visitation or custody of the child it can be shown that it is not in the bestInterest of the child for the father to have such rights.

The Father's Prospective

The father of a child born out of wedlock has no rights to Custody, Visitation, or Child Support when they receive a court order for the same.

If a father wants custody rights, visitation or maintenance for a child born outside of marriage, which will have a petition to establish parentage file, and an order for the cause of custody, visitation, show and / orSupport.

The mother of the child may or may not agree that the father is the true father of the child. Any party may request that a DNA test conducted to prove whether the father is the paternal father of a child.

Once the Court, fatherhood, the court will look at support as many factors relating to rights to custody, visitation, and.

The court will usually order the father visitation or custody of the child it can be shown that itnot in the best interest of the child for the father to have such rights.

The mother and father's foresight as a whole

The court will always try to determine what the children's best interests in determining who has custody and visiting rights for a child or children. This can be a long and expensive process when processed. It is recommended that you try that a mother and father work out an informal custody and visitation rights for a child or children, andthen a court order that reflects the consent of the mother and father.

If you can not work it out informally, as the Court decide the issue for you.

Support of the child or children will be determined by the court with the help of a statutory formula based on both parties income, the percentage of time each person with the child or children and other factors.

It is always recommended that you retain a lawyer in this type of cases. Only a fool has himself oreven for a customer.

SBIG CFW9 Five Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Models without Filters

SBIG CFW9 Five Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Models without Filters Review

SBIG CFW9 Five Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Models without Filters Feature

SBIG CFW9 Five Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Models without Filters Overview

The CFW-9 system is designed to be "Direct connected" to any ST-7/8/9/10/2000 imaging camera for a thinner, more rigid mounting. The CFW-9 is operated through the CCDOPS software and utilizes a closed loop stepper motor system with positional accuracy of ±0.01 inches. It holds up to five standard 1.25" diameter thread-in filters. It is available with Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) interference filter sets and a clear filter (focusing). The new SBIG RGB filters also block Infrared (IR) so an inline IR Blocking filter is no longer required. These filters are mounted in standard size cells that normally fit into 1.25" eyepiece barrels. The CFW-9 adds back focus of approximately 1 inch. The CFW-9 can produce photographic quality tricolor images that rival color astrophotographs. However, these RGB images also contain an entirely new and added level of valuable information; the identification and distribution of different ionized gasses in an object. SBIG also furnishes precision UBVRI filter sets with the Model CFW-9, filters that allow the user to perform color photometry to measure the classification and temperature of objects. Tricolor images are taken through the CFW-9 Color Filter Wheel and processed with CCDOPS, CCDSoftV5, or third party software. The primary color images are taken through Red, Green and Blue filters. Kendrick Dew Remover Heater for Newtonian 8" Primary Mirrors Overview

The Kendrick Dew Remover System is centered around the standard controller, which is required for activating the heater. (not included) The heaters have been built to use only as much power as necessary and thereby not waste energy. They have sponge insulation on one side to prevent heat being lost into the atmosphere. The heat is directed into the optics instead and because of this, less energy is needed to keep your optics moisture free. The heaters wrap around your objectives, label side out and are held in place by elastic/Velcro attachments. Telrad heaters are held in place with an elastic band. (The Heaters for Secondary Mirrors are placed on the backside of the secondary and can be held in place by using the polyester batting found inside the secondary mirror holder. The .965", 1.25" and 2" are considered eyepiece heaters. The 2" are also heaters for camera lenses and certain binoculars.)

So here is the scenario: a hitherto unknown meteor comes streaking to earth and somehow lands on your CIO squeezed him / her immediately. What do you do next? Where would you get your replacement CIO and you know, who would it be?

A study of the equipment supply company CDW revealed that even at companies with 1,000 or more employees, 38% had no formal succession plan CIO has done. Ouch - watch out for the meteors!

Even if yourCIO does not spend much time outdoors, where it may meteors, a good point to keep in mind that the average tenure of a CIO is 3-5 years. If you know who could replace your current CIO begin to think, is a question that immediately spring to mind: internal vs. external.

It really does not help that may be exactly what are the qualifications to be a CIO very subjective. In most cases it really is, depends on several factors including the size of your company in the industry you playin, and what are the current expectations of the IT department.

A study done by Information Week found that of 500 current CIOs, 58% of them were recruited from the outside. This means that the choice of the outsider is not so unusual.

When it comes to deciding whether you should look for internal vs. external, corporate culture can play a major role. If your company has a history of hiring from the outside, then you get your next CIO of her feel much morecourse.

Internal applicants can go a good way, because they already know so much be about the company. At the same time, they often find themselves in a situation where they in over their heads in responsibility. External CIO candidates often have the experience to do the work, but only because they come from the outside expectations will be higher for them.

In the end, make sure that you carefully select all of your potential sources - you need tothe best talent in your top IT position.
