Have you reviewed your Families tornado safety tips lately? Do you even have such a list? If not, it's about time you get some. People lose their life every year in tornado's because they're unprepared. Don't become a statistic! Here are 5 safety tips you must know before the next storm hits.

1. Seek shelter underground. If you don't have a cellar or basement, then seek shelter in a safe room inside your home. If you don't have a safe room, then get in a small room in the interior of your home. There should be no windows in this room. If it's a bathroom, then you'll want to pull a mattress over you and your family while in the tub.

2. Stay away from windows and inside. Most deaths from tornado's come from flying debris. This usually happens when people go outside or are standing near windows.

3. If you're in a Mobile home, get out. Even if it's tied down it's still dangerous! Seek safety in another area. Don't wait until the storm is on you, by then it's too late.

4. If you're driving, get out of the car. Vehicles are a step below Mobile homes when it comes to dangerous places to be in a tornado. In past tornado's, cars have been moved over a mile. If you're out in the middle of nowhere and no shelter is around, seek a ditch and lay in the bottom. If no ditch is around, look for a bridge or overpass (although some "experts" recommend against this). In my opinion, a bridge or over pass is better than being out in the open. Get as far up under the bridge as you can.

5. Avoid downed power lines. More than likely it will be wet from the storm. This adds danger to downed power lines. Never assume a downed line is dead, always treat them as if they are energized at all times and give them a wide berth. If you can, report all downed power lines.

These are just a few of the common tornado safety tips you should be aware of. It's also a good idea to have a weather radio to give you a heads up warning on tornados.
